As the oldest university in Germany, Heidelberg University maintains over 170 degree programs and 31,000 enrolled students. The University’s motto of  “Semper apertus,” or “Always Open” is exemplified in its openness to opportunities for application that extend beyond basic research.

The “Industry on Campus” program promotes campus research applied to industry through partnerships with world leading companies such as BASF, Nikon, and Merck. “The goal through each of such programs is to realize potential and cross boundaries with new solutions,” shared Dr. Dieter W. Heermann, Vice-Rector for International Relations.

Heidelberg University is also highly focused on international collaboration through office locations in Chile, New York, New Dehli, and a new office opening in Kyoto. The university participates in several prestigious alliances including the League of European Research Universities, the Santander Network, and the Coimbra Group. With regards to Brazil, Professor Heermann commented, “Brazil is a great partner for us, we work in collaboration with Brazilian counterparts in fields ranging from sports to physics.” With the growth of Brazil’s influence in research and higher education, Heidelberg University is open and looking forward to further collaboration in the future.
