LATAM: Synergistic Service

October 3, 2014

LATAM Airlines was officially created in June of 2012, as the result of a merger between the two leading carriers of South America, LAN and TAM Airlines.

The merger was both logical and synergistic as the companies share a similar passion for delivering excellence to their customers and strong commitments to safety and reliability.

In addition to shared values of world-class service, the complementary nature of the respective airline fleets were combined to create one of the largest airline groups in the world in terms of network connections. The extensive network now provides passenger transport services to nearly 135 destinations in 22 countries and cargo services to 144 destinations in 27 countries, with a fleet of 320 aircraft.

Regional Director Central & Eastern Europe, Mr. Cristián Lizana added “Over 1.5 million people yearly fly from South America to Europe. In that, Brazil is the biggest market for LATAM in Germany, and is the reason why we have daily direct flights from Frankfurt to São Paulo.”

LAN and TAM have continued with the same service, safety, and quality as always, keeping company headquarters in Santiago and São Paulo, respectively. However, the merger has allowed LATAM Airlines to achieve greater efficiency at lower costs and with more opportunities for growth.

For example, LATAM invested USD 4.9 billion to renew its fleet with lower CO2 emissions aircrafts. “As LAN we were the first airline in South America to operate with the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner and as TAM, we will be the first airline in the Americas and the fourth in the world to receive and operate the Airbus A350-900 XWB” added Mr. Lizana.
