With top-ranked undergraduate and graduate degrees garnering national and global attention, and a solid commitment to its growing number of international students, opportunities abound at Laurentian University. Located on a 765-acre peninsula in Sudbury, Ontario, and offering more than 175 undergraduate and graduate programs, this mid-sized, bilingual university will make any globetrotting student interested in environmental studies do a double take.

Over the past 55 years, Laurentian has built a solid reputation for its innovative programs in environmental studies, health sciences, mineral exploration and mining, engineering, and management. Students benefit from the expertise of the faculty, and the school’s proximity to a “living lab” of some of the most developed natural resources in the world, including nickel.  Moreover, with one of the best faculty-student ratios  anywhere, and on-campus language training for students enrolled in traditional coursework, Laurentian is a place where academic goals are exceeded daily.

Giving reason for its reputation, the university has four distinct centers of research in a range of disciplines, including the Vale Living with Lakes International Research Center, a LEED-certified building perched on Lake Ramsey. Laurentian also has the world-famous underground Sudbury Neutrino Observatory. It is the home to the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, the Laurentian School of Architecture, and a brand-new International School of Mines that recently  signed an agreement of exchange and collaboration with the University of Ouro Preto in Brazil.

Laurentian is also a member of the International Student Exchange Program, which welcomes Brazilian partners and students. In fact, Brazil is one of the top five markets for the university. The school has  done a number of fairs this year, and aims to launch a short term EA/ESL program in the near future. The director of the mining school is planning a trip to Brazil to solidify relationships with Brazilian partners, and invites an exchange of research and education. Laurentian welcomes international students interested in short-term outdoor education opportunities as well.

With unique eco-opportunities and unparalleled academic support, Laurentian is hands-down the best bet for Brazilian students looking to study at a highly-ranked university in one of the most naturally beautiful environments in the world.
