Education in PEI: Home to the University of Prince Edward Island, Maritime Christian College, and several smaller, private institutions, the island province strongly emphasizes bilingualism and incorporates French immersion into public education from an early level. In addition to foreign language programs, international students come to PEI’s technical training schools such as the Culinary Institute of Canada and the Atlantic Police Academy. The province also has a thriving culture of art, music, and sports.
Industry and the Ministry’s Role: PEI’s Department of Innovation and Advanced Learning helps to facilitate academic partnerships with major industries such as aviation, shipbuilding, and sustainable aquaculture. The province recently invested CAD $16 million in the University of Prince Edward Island’s new School of Sustainable Design Engineering.
