As one of the eleven member institutions of Polytechnics Canada, Saskatchewan Polytechnic serves 26,000 distinct students through applied learning opportunities at campuses in Moose Jaw, Prince Albert, Regina and Saskatoon, and through extensive distance education opportunities. It also provides international students with a top-notch education and a helping hand with immigration and employment for those who pursue careers in Canada after graduation.

Programs serve every economic and public service sector. As a polytechnic, the organization provides the depth of learning appropriate to employer and student need, including certificate, diploma and degree programs, and apprenticeship training.“Saskatchewan Polytechnic recognizes the role international students play in helping to meet Saskatchewan’s future labour market needs,” said Saskatchewan Polytechnic President and CEO, Dr. Larry Rosia. “The demand for high-quality technical education is on the rise and we know that once these students have attained Canadian academic credentials, many will choose to put down permanent roots in our province.”

International students are drawn to the science, technology, and engineering programs at Saskatchewan Polytechnic, as well as the popular certificate program in business. Always putting students first, the polytechnic strives to design its programs to meet the changing needs of its students and the job market. Saskatchewan Polytechnic also engages in applied research, drawing on faculty expertise to support innovation by employers, and providing students the opportunity to develop critical thinking skills.

Saskatchewan Polytechnic has four campuses across Saskatchewan, each offering a unique slice of Canadian student life. For students looking to expand their education, the school offers several opportunities to complete degrees at partnering institutions, which include the University of Regina, the University of Saskatchewan, and the University of Lethbridge.

In the last four years, the number of international students at the polytechnic has seen significant increase, and Manager of International Services, Jason Mazzei, believes the polytechnic’s international student population will grow even further: “I expect we will be doubling our international student group in the next two to five years. The goal is to reach more countries and become more diverse in our international student population.”

Saskatchewan Polytechnic welcomes international students to learn in Saskatchewan or study Saskatchewan Polytechnic programs abroad. In collaboration with educational institutions overseas, the institution offers many programs that have strong articulation agreements with universities across Canada, with graduates often receiving two years of credit towards a degree. This year, Saskatchewan Polytechnic’s International Education office wants to focus on one of its most exciting emerging markets, Brazil.

“Moving forward, Brazil is on the top of our list and will be a focus for 2015,” said Mr. Mazzei. “We are actively looking at partnership opportunities in Brazil in terms of programming or recruiting students.”
