The University of Windsor:
Seeking New Partnerships with Brazil
February 28, 2015
Brazilian students at Windsor have reported positive experiences – especially regarding the beautiful natural surroundings, the friendliness of Canadians, and the diversity on campus. In turn, the university has been thrilled to host Brazilians.
“The students coming from Brazil provide our campus with a wonderful new demographic. They are very engaged and that is something that we want when someone from another culture comes to our campus. The caliber of student and the level of involvement has really been remarkable,” noted Ms. Atkins.

Founded in 1857, and with just over 16,000 students, the University of Windsor prides itself on offering quality education to its students. With small class sizes, opportunities to be involved with innovative research projects, and a supportive atmosphere on campus, it is no wonder this renowned public institution has attracted over 100 Brazilian undergraduate students through the Science without Borders program.
Windsor currently has multiple promising partnerships with Brazilian institutions in the works. Director of the Centre for English Language Development, Jennie Atkins, commented on the school’s recent meetings with several Brazilian universities, “The schools that we were visiting were impressive. We are looking at synergies between the two campuses in terms of faculty research, industry connections, and student/faculty exchange. We are also hoping to encourage more program involvement at the graduate level.”
Always looking for quality partners with similar interests, Windsor’s current research areas focus on automotive innovation, advanced materials, health and wellness, environmental ecosystems, and culture and social change. The school recently established a medical school and opened a state of the art Centre for Engineering Innovation.
