Nova Scotia College of Art and Design Looking for Partners in Brazil
February 28, 2015
One of Canada’s pioneer art schools, Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NSCAD) has maintained its long-standing reputation as a leading university in the field of Art and Design for more than 125 years. With rigorous programs ranging from jewelry to film, the success of NSCAD’s large alumni network comes as no surprise.
“A very high percentage of our alumni are entrepreneurs and business owners. Not only self-employed business owners, but a majority of our alumni have companies that employ other people. If you compare career success between business school and art school, you probably see just as much per capita success from our art school as you would from a business school,” explained NSCAD Director of Admissions and Enrollment Services, Terry Bailey.
Among NSCAD’s international students, representing 15% of the student body, programs such as Digital Media, Design, Textile Fashion, and Film have been popular. Currently, most Brazilian students are enrolled through Science without Borders, though the college hopes to establish exchange agreements with specific Brazilian schools in the near future.
“We have over 70 exchange partners in 19 countries right now, but we do not have any in Brazil. What we have seen with the Science without Borders program is that Brazilian schools are sending us some really great students. We are looking at developing some articulation agreements for student exchange, but also for professional development or faculty exchange as well,” stated Mr. Bailey. “We also want to promote our graduate programs to these students who have done so well as undergraduate Science without Borders exchange students.”
The school partners with several language schools, ensuring international students at NSCAD begin their Canadian academic experience with a strong foundation. Mr. Bailey elaborated, “We also have learning support. In addition to the visa, health insurance, and financial aid supports that we offer students, we have English tutoring through specialized tutors and academic advisors.”
Furthermore, NSCAD helps place international students in internships throughout Halifax. Students feel welcome in the community, as well as on campus where 24-hour facilities, accessible faculty, and small class sizes make NSCAD an easy top choice for any aspiring art and design student.
