BerlinerLuft Provides Local Brazilian HVAC to German Standards
October 3, 2014

BerlinerLuft is a leading provider of air conditioning and ventilation systems, serving a broad range of sectors from industrial plants to hospitals. Its products provide healthy climates through heating and cooling as well as conducting, distributing, and regulating conditioned air for the highest standards of comfort and industry requirement.

Tracing its history to the re-unification of Germany after the Cold War, Managing Director Jorge Guimet explained “The entire economy in Eastern Germany was publicly owned at the time, and then all the big industries were privatized—a huge project and took many years. The founder of BerlinerLuft, Michael Nagl, was a consultant working in this effort, drawing from his experience with restructuring companies. After many consulting projects, he stepped into BerlinerLuft as the owner.”

The Brazilian branch of BerlinerLuft opened in 2001. Today, BerlinerLuft holds a strong connection to Brazil as company owner Mr. Nagl and his family spent almost ten years in Brazil, and Mr. Guimet has previous management experience there as well.

This long-term presence in Brazil allows BerlinerLuft leadership to analyze local trends and progress. Mr. Guimet added, “Brazil has developed rapidly in the qualification and competitiveness of its workforce while infrastructure and education continue to improve. The country has developed immensely and we are able to find quality people whose skills will continue to build.  We are proud to say that with over 120 employees, almost 100% are Brazilians, including management.”

After securing the largest share in fan production in Brazil with ventilators for all applications from comfort up to industrial air-conditioning and serving solutions in louver valves and acoustic with own configurator Akuswin, BerlinerLuft is expanding in the area of air handling units—products which regulate indoor temperature and humidity by cycling air into and out of buildings. New developments in these systems like ConfortCond greatly reduce energy requirements and increase climatization of entire buildings. Other applications include air processing for areas with strict hygiene or anti-contamination requirements, such as laboratories or hospital operating rooms.

In industrial applications, air-handling units can help achieve the highest standards in production. BerlinerLuft currently supplies an automotive painting plant for Volkswagen and Audi in Mexico, achieving the highest manufacturing quality through application of clean air standards.

“We plan to add 10% to 15% more employees in Brazil in the next four to five years,” said Mr. Guimet. “We are constructing new facilities and plan to grow even more in the medium term.”

Quality and energy regulation trends indicate that central air handling systems will become standard architectural elements in modern Brazilian buildings. BerlinerLuft strategically offers all building solutions, supplying German standards with local Brazilian production.

Mr. Guimet concluded, “In Brazil, we can help develop the market and raise the bar in this industry.”
