Emissions Down,  Efficiency Up
October 3, 2014

Röchling Automotive engineers are driven by boosting efficiency; bringing together their competence in airflow, acoustics, and thermal management. “It's about creating systems for lower fuel consumption, lower weight, lower CO2 and other emissions,” stated Mr. Peter Mettens, General Manager, South America of Röchling Automotive Group.

The Röchling Group, a 1.3 billion euro company with over 7,500 employees across four continents, is known for its expertise in plastics. In the automotive industry, Röchling’s client base includes the vehicle producers and their system suppliers. Today nearly every carmaker worldwide is being supplied out of one of the company’s twenty modern production plants.

Röchling Automotive is a truly global organization and the company’s presence in Brazil dates back nearly fifteen years. “Our advantage at Röchling Automotive is that we have been a multi-cultural organization since our beginnings. Combination gave us a natural strength to succeed in the global marketplace,” said Mr. Ernst Platten, Head of Marketing of Röchling Automotive Group.

The company recently opened a new plant in Itupeva, and will continue to hire locally in Brazil in areas ranging from research and development to sales. Noting Röchling’s recent expansion in South America, Mr. Platten added, “We are seeing that a lot of car makers in the Brazilian market come to us with remarkable interest in our expertise and innovation.”

Röchling Automotive comes to Brazil with internationally tested products and expertise. The company is the world market leader in Active Grill Shutters. It started early in 2003 for the BMW 5 series. “Now, we have brought this to nearly every vehicle type, including pure electric vehicles such as the Tesla S and even trucks,” explained Mr. Platten.

In Brazil, Röchling plans to showcase several new products in response to the region’s rapidly increasing demand for high-tech, high-quality automotive parts. In addition to active grill shutters, Röchling is a trusted name in air filtration systems, highly flexible and temperature-resistant charge air pipes and air intake manifolds.

Mr. Marco Barbolini, Product Manager Engine Systems at Röchling Automotive, outlined the advantages: “We determine lifetime of the filter in advance. Today filters are being tested which often means trial and error. We can, on the other hand, calculate it accurately, based on given parameters for filter type and environmental conditions, saving time and money.”

The company utilizes engineering science and special expert knowledge in actuation to improve automotive thermal efficiency and to reduce aerodynamic drag. This level of technological expertise drives Röchling Automotive’s creativity; the group has won a series of innovation awards by the Society of Plastic Engineers (SPE). “Innovation is a core value of Röchling, which means wherever you look in the world, Röchling is constantly providing new solutions for our clients,” concluded Mr. Platten.
