Fulton-Montgomery: A Smart First Step Towards a Successful Future

August 9, 2014

Situated between the picturesque Adirondack Mountains and New York’s thriving Tech Valley Corridor, Fulton-Montgomery Community College (FM) is a comprehensive two-year college, providing a strong step towards success either in continued education or career placement.

As a campus of the State University of New York (SUNY) system, the largest public university system in the world, FM provides access to a quality higher education curriculum with over 40 degree and certificate programs including liberal arts and sciences, business, as well as electrical and radiologic technology. Offering small classes and individualized attention, FM is dedicated to delivering an exceptional education in an environment that nurtures success.

Through its diverse curricula, FM strives to meet the needs of the region and its students by preparing them to transfer to a university or to enter the workforce upon completion of a program. Students have continued their studies at universities within New York State including SUNY Plattsburgh, The State University of New York at Albany, and Syracuse University. Others have transferred to schools outside the state such as Florida State University and the University of California at Berkeley.

For students ready to launch their careers, FM’s Centers for Excellence offer focused courses of study that evolve to meet the changing landscape of today’s job market. Each degree is designed to bridge the gap between receiving an education and getting hired. Success of its programs are easy to measure, as students graduating with a technical degree from FM have been proven to make a higher salary that most bachelor degree graduates.

The school also offers students the opportunity to tailor their eduction to meet personal career goals through FM’s Collaborative Career Learning (COCAL) program. This program is designed to combine classroom education with internship experience, providing a competitive edge in the job market.

The college offers a full-time Intensive English Language Program for students looking to improve their language ability before beginning a college degree or certificate program.

Director of International Student and ESL Programs, Arlene Spencer added that, for students who are continuing studies at the FM campus, a combined ESL and degree program admission is offered as yet another way to customize programs for its international students.

With this attractive combination of program offerings and dedicated faculty, it is no wonder why Fulton-Montgomery Community College is in “growth mode” in terms of doubling its land size, new state of the art facilities and growing student body.
