August 11, 2014

As one of the top student-centered research institutions in the United States, The University of Alabama (UA) offers world-class academic programs for U.S. and international students. For more than a decade, UA has consistently ranked among the top 50 public universities in the nation as noted by U.S. News and World Report.

Founded in 1831, UA has a rich history of academic excellence, and the campus is recognized as one of the most beautiful in the United States. Located in the Southeastern U.S. in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, UA also offers a wonderful climate and a low cost of living. Students can choose from more than 200 major courses of study in 12 different colleges and more than 450 student organizations.

UA is recognized throughout the world for its programs in science and engineering, as well as business, communications, education, arts, and more. UA strongly promotes undergraduate research, and students and award-winning faculty are involved in studies throughout a wide range of traditional disciplines and interdisciplinary areas.

The UA Graduate School, which has a strong commitment to a robust, diverse international student population, offers 120 graduate degree programs. As a UA grad student, you will interact with nationally-ranked faculty, as well as students from all 50 states and more than 75 nations.

Students can choose from more than 200 major courses of study in 12 different colleges and more than 450 student organizations.

Through the Capstone International Center (CIC), students have access to the English Language Institute (ELI), which offers intensive English language training and cultural orientation. The CIC processes required immigration documentation, advises students on internships, employment authorization and travel, and provides social and intercultural programs for international students and the UA community.

UA is proud to have hosted over 125 students through the Brazil Scientific Mobility Program, which provides Brazilian undergraduate and graduate students scholarships to study in the United States.

In January, 2013, UA also hosted The Brazilian Teacher Training Program. This six-week program, which was funded by the Brazilian government, was designed to provide opportunities for Brazilian high school English teachers to improve their proficiency in English, as well as their knowledge and understanding of language-teaching pedagogy and techniques. The program included 30 participants from various regions of Brazil. All participants were selected by the government of Brazil.
