Unique Programs for Brazilian Students

August 5, 2014

As interest in American-Brazilian partnerships increases, many American universities have significantly expanded their on-campus programming for Brazilian students, as well as initiatives aimed at engaging American students in Brazilian culture.

Several schools have implemented unique, Brazil-focused scholarship funds, such as the Lemann Fellowship Program at UCLA, Yale, Columbia, and other universities. To enhance cross-cultural engagement, many universities now offer Portuguese classes, study abroad programs to Brazil, and Brazilian cultural activities on campus and in the local community.

With an active on-campus presence, visiting Brazilians have founded Brazil Clubs at colleges throughout the United States. Many universities have increased their support services for international students, offering international student residence options, group cultural excursions, advising, and more.

Faculty members are enthusiastic to welcome Brazilians to their research labs and classrooms, and many organize special events such as field trips to the research facilities of major engineering companies and opportunities to engage in conferences and other global outreach activities.
