Excellent Education on the Outskirts of New York City

August 11, 2014

Nestled in a suburban setting a short train ride from New York City, Hofstra University offers students an idyllic educational opportunity: academic excellence alongside a multitude of opportunities for networking, internships, and cultural and recreational experiences in one of the greatest cities in the world.

Hofstra offers 140 undergraduate and 150 graduate programs, with classes emphasizing real-world applications in STEM fields, business, communications, medicine, and education among others. Hofstra prioritizes excellent teaching with a student to faculty ratio of 14:1 and only 20 to 25 students per class.

“Brazilian students tend to integrate quickly into the multicultural campus and take full advantage of the broad offerings in culture and student life,” said Ms. Boutsis. “They are extremely successful, and I’m proud to say that they’ve been ambassadors for Hofstra when they return home.”

In addition to traditional majors, over 100 dual degree programs allow students to pursue simultaneous undergraduate and master’s degrees, saving students time and money while accelerating their careers with specialized degrees.

Proximity to New York City allows Hofstra students a wide range of internships, cultural opportunities, and the excitement of the nearby city. The campus is located less than an hour by train from the city, making it accessible while maintaining a unique identity in the vibrant opportunities on campus as well.

Hofstra takes pride in its diversity—both in its student body and in faculty and staff. In addition to ethnically diverse domestic students, it is host to over 1,000 international students from 70 countries from around the world. The Multicultural International Student Programs Office (MISPO) offers academic, social, and cultural programs for international students while promoting cultural awareness and diversity education for the broader university.

“MISPO provides orientation and other services including a internship advice and a peer mentorship program,” explained Director of International Recruitment, Ms. Stav Boutsis. “The Office of Admission works closely with MISPO when bringing new international students to campus.”

Brazil Scientific Mobility Program students and other interested Brazilian students encounter a broad range of excellent academic programs and a motivated student body.

“Brazilian students tend to integrate quickly into the multicultural campus and take full advantage of the broad offerings in culture and student life,” said Ms. Boutsis. “They are extremely successful, and I’m proud to say that they’ve been ambassadors for Hofstra when they return home.”
