Global International Education Facilitator Serving the Brazil Scientific Mobility Program

August 10, 2014

Founded in 1919, the Institute of International Education (IIE) has a reputation for serving students, universities, corporations, and government institutions throughout the world in the field of international education. IIE publicizes information on scholarship opportunities (such as the flagship Fulbright Program which IIE administers on behalf of the U.S. Department of State), works to promote capacity-building in developing countries, and even provides emergency assistance to students, faculty, and scholars stationed abroad. By means of training programs, fellowships, and other long-term partnerships, IIE strives to encourage social justice and sustainability across its breadth of education-oriented activities.

IIE works with the Brazilian Government's Brazil Scientific Mobility Program (BSMP) to help develop links between Brazilian universities and students and BSMP host institutions, and believes the BSMP will play a significant role in IIE’s latest initiative, Generation Study Abroad. As an increasing number of Brazilians in the U.S. are sparking an international interest in American students, IIE has launched a global campaign in the U.S. to promote studying abroad. “We believe that it ought to be part of everybody's education, especially American students, to have the opportunity that students from Brazil are having. I thank the BSMP students for being ambassadors for Brazil and inviting Americans to visit Brazil.” Mr. Goodman emphasized.

Mr. Goodman believes international experience is a crucial component of any student’s education, and hopes the Generation Study Abroad initiative will encourage American students to participate in meaningful, international experiences ranging from academic work to internships and service learning projects. By administering both American-directed initiatives as well as international programs like the Brazil Scientific Mobility Program, IIE is helping to create a globally-educated generation of future leaders, open-minded collaborators, international researchers, and innovative thinkers.

"Through knowledge you improve your society and also the world that we share."
- A. Goodman

IIE’s development initiatives enhance the ability of universities to position themselves as global institutions, thus promoting the beneficial exchange of ideas and cultures throughout the world. “We believe that international education exchange makes the world a less dangerous place. We have been operating for nearly a century on the premise that knowledge is better off, societies are better off, progress is better off, and peace is better off, if we have people studying, teaching and researching in each other's countries. Through knowledge you improve your society and also the world that we share,” said IIE President and CEO Mr. Allan E. Goodman.
