Alcorn State University

Alcorn State University is a public institution that was founded in 1871. Alcorn State University’s three campuses – in Lorman, Natchez, and Vicksburg – offer convenient access to world class higher education in an intimate setting in Southwest Mississippi. Newer facilities on campus, including the Medgar Evers Village; the math and science, ecology, and biotech buildings; and the Clinton Bristow dining facility smoothly integrate high tech amenities with the serenity of the 1,756-acre, historic Lorman campus.

Allegheny College

Next year, Allegheny College will celebrate its 200 year anniversary, a feat well-deserved by this prestigious, community-focused liberal arts institution based in Meadville, Pennsylvania. Small class sizes and a close-knit student body create a supportive learning environment, and Allegheny strives to uphold its long-standing history of “educating young men and women to confront the challenges of our shared future.” Allegheny boasts distinguished programs in the STEM fields, including biochemistry, computer science, environmental science, geology, and neuroscience. Arizona State University

With numerous exchanges and partnerships with Brazil, it is no wonder Arizona State University (ASU) is one of the top American host institutions for the Brazil Scientific Mobility Program. The ASU community welcomes Brazilians and several thousand other international students to its large, thriving community to pursue some of the school’s hundreds of academic programs. ASU ranks amongst the top universities in the United States for graduate employment and Fulbright Scholars, and is ranked the top school in the state of Arizona by the Center for World University Rankings. ASU is well known for its law and business programs, as well as its innovative advances in online education.

 

ASU’s worldwide reputation is bolstered by its commitment to global education, and ASU students can study human rights in São Paulo, sustainability in Curitiba, and public health in Salvador da Bahia. ASU students can also complete a certificate program in Brazilian Studies, and study Portuguese through the School of International Letters and Cultures. Auburn University

Augustana College

Situated in the heart of vibrant Boston, Massachusetts, BU has been guiding young scholars down a pathway to lifelong success since 1839. Each year, approximately 600 employers – including Coca Cola Co., General Electric, and Goldman Sachs – come to BU’s career fairs, and 300,000-strong BU alumni are currently living and working in nearly every country in the world. Bryn Mawr College

The undergraduate women who attend Bryn Mawr College are guaranteed access to a top-notch liberal arts education on a gorgeous and historic Pennsylvania campus. A small, supportive student body means students help one another succeed, and after four years, these women are ready to take on the world. This year, several received prestigious international fellowships, including a Fulbright. Some will work for JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, and eBay. Many opt to attend graduate school.

Cal State Northridge

Many international students, including 125 Brazilians from the Brazil Scientific Mobility Program, are attracted to California State University at Northridge’s (CSUN) Los Angeles location, which offers pleasant weather year-round and access to a booming job market. Students regularly spend their weekdays taking classes and doing internships in Los Angeles, and their weekends at the nearby mountains or beach.

 

CSUN strives to provide support and ensure that each student’s academic experience fits his or her needs, yet students feel empowered and independent at this large, urban university. Ms. Vanessa Andrade, Outreach Manager of International Programs and Partnerships at CSUN’s Tseng College, elaborated on why CSUN is an ideal American college experience and attracts nearly 3,000 international students per year: “For students who are interested in a very robust and interactive campus life – if they really want to experience what an American college life is – our campus has a lot of opportunities for them.”

 

CSUN emphasizes real-world experiences, and hopes to develop partnerships with Brazilian and other international businesses interested in offering customized, meaningful opportunities to CSUN students.

 

Case Western Reserve University

Located on the outskirts of urban Cleveland, Ohio, Case Western Reserve University is ranked by the U.S. News & World Report as the 37th best college in the country. A small, tight-knit student body enjoys the ability to conduct groundbreaking research with supportive, collaborative, top professors in their fields. Case Western is known for programs such as biomedical engineering, which is ranked 11th in the country, and medicine, with top-ranked programs in AIDS research, nursing, health law, and dentistry. Robust academics are coupled with a plethora of student organizations, an active Greek life, and Division III athletics.

 

Case Western is committed to developing bilateral agreements with Brazil, and hopes to maintain and improve its position as a Top 50 host institution for the Brazil Scientific Mobility Program. The university is looking forward to establishing exchange agreements with Brazilian medical schools, and believes collaborative research would benefit both Brazil and Case Western.

 

College of Charleston

Situated just minutes from South Carolina’s scenic Atlantic coastline, the College of Charleston (C of C) offers a wide array of academic opportunities coupled with an unbeatable student lifestyle. Academic programs include computer science, global logistics, and international business, as well as the renowned marine biology program which allows students to conduct research at the university’s own Grice Marine Lab on a nearby island. The university is expanding focus on the STEM fields in response to the area’s boom in the technology industry – the Charleston Harbor is often called “Silicon Harbor” and is on its way to becoming the Silicon Valley of the East Coast.

 

The university strives to build an interesting, diverse student body, and this year’s class includes students from the North Pole to New Zealand. An intensive English language program caters to the individual needs of international students, and includes classes ranging from writing and grammar to accent modification. American students are encouraged to study abroad, and several language classes are offered on campus, including Portuguese. Alternatively, local students can take Portuguese classes in Brazil through C of C’s exchange partnership with the Universidade do Sul de Santa Catarina. College of Charleston professors have been impressed with the top-quality work and adaptability of Brazilian students at C of C and look forward to hosting many more in the future.

 

College of Staten Island

The English Language Institute (ELI) is part of the Center for International Service at the College of Staten Island (CSI). ELI is a long-standing quality English Language Program that has been serving the language needs of local and international students for approximately thirty years. It is situated at the College of Staten Island on a beautiful, 204-acre park-like campus, less than an hour from downtown New York City. The program offers language instruction with an American culture component, and is geared toward students seeking to improve their English language skills and obtain the tools necessary to be successful in both academic and work environments. Nine week sessions are offered throughout the year, in addition to fourteen week sessions that immerse students in academic English with preparation for TOEFL and other entrance exams.

 

Additionally, the institute offers January Intersession programs and special programs like American Language and Culture. During this four week program, students learn about U.S. government, history, society, and culture, and have opportunities for social engagements in the form of volunteer opportunities arranged by ELI, as well as exciting excursions that include group trips to Broadway productions, New York major league baseball games, and more. A session at ELI is an investment in English language skills, lasting friendships, and an unforgettable taste of American life.

 

Colorado State University, Fort Collins

Founded in 1870 as an agricultural college, Colorado State University at Fort Collins (CSU) prides itself as a leading research institution in fields ranging from atmospheric science to biomedical technology to infectious diseases. CSU attracts STEM students from around the world, and thirty percent of all STEM students in the state of Colorado choose to study at CSU. Generous funding enables students from the undergraduate level to experience hands-on research, which continues through the graduate level in programs such as veterinary medicine and agriculture. In these fields, students have thousands of acres of university land at their fingertips, as the university has its own agricultural campus, mountain campus, and State Forest Service stations. Located in northern Colorado, students have access to a wealth of outdoor activities at the nearby Rocky Mountains and the Great Plains.

 

Colorado State University invites Brazilians to study through the Brazil Scientific Mobility Program, and will proudly host ninety BSMP students on campus this fall. Brazilians students appreciate the strong research opportunities that CSU makes available to international students, as well as the English language program that helps to ease their transition into challenging STEM courses.

 

Colorado State University, Pueblo

The award winning Modern Aztec style campus at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains reflects the international style of Colorado State University, Pueblo. CSU-Pueblo is committed to serving the needs of the growing number of Brazilians at CSU-Pueblo, and has plans to increase the number of international students by ten percent this year. Students gain hands-on experiences through small classes, research programs, and internships. Participating in community outreach programs and using the social and recreational facilities on campus helps students to integrate into the academic and social communities. The university historically attracts a large Spanish-speaking population to the flexible, four-level English language program at the English Language Institute. The city of Pueblo offers a reasonable cost-of-living and allows students to enjoy plenty of outdoor activities such as skiing, rafting, and hiking.

 

Cornell University

Founded in 1865, Cornell University is a research-focused land-grant institution located in Ithaca, New York, and is consistently ranked amongst the Top 20 American universities by the U.S. News & World Report. The school offers over 100 academic majors, including highly ranked programs in engineering, law, business, medicine, physics, and veterinary medicine. Cornell students are active outside the classroom and uphold the university’s mission to “encourage each other to pursue unpredicted lines of thinking in order to affect change on local and international scales.” Graduates are known to volunteer with the Peace Corps and hold positions to promote global change, and several have gone on to receive Fulbright awards and Nobel Peace Prizes.

 

Cornell works hard to create a diverse on-campus community, with one in five students coming to campus from abroad. In a recent initiative to welcome more Brazilians to Cornell, the school has been hosting students through the Brazil Scientific Mobility Program, who are attracted to Cornell’s strong STEM programs. Cornell enjoys the enthusiasm and assiduousness of Brazilians on campus, and looks forward to developing long-lasting research and exchange partnerships with Brazilian universities.
