Dillard University

Dillard University (DU) is a small, private liberal arts school in New Orleans, Louisiana with a history dating back to 1869. It is located on a picturesque 55-acre campus in New Orleans, Louisiana which boasts an “Avenue of Oaks,” spacious greens, and white buildings of both Jeffersonian and modern architectural styles. Offering 21 majors, the school reflects the exceptional diversity of the Latin American, European, and African population unique to New Orleans. With its architecture, festivals, museums and art galleries, Audubon Zoo, riverboats, streetcars, Mardi Gras, Jazz Fest, and a host of other festivals and historic landmarks, New Orleans makes Dillard University one of the most unique places to live and learn. For several years, DU has been welcoming English teachers from Brazil to its intensive Development Program for Teachers of English, and offers excellent student training in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

 

Evergreen Academy

What better place to learn English than in Washington, D.C., the capital of the United States. Evergreen Academy offers a wide selection of comprehensive English language programs for international students, and ensures that each student’s American experience reaches well beyond the classroom. Evergreen understands the importance of cultural immersion in mastering a new language, and students regularly participate in organized excursions to New York and Philadelphia, as well as to the numerous historical and cultural sites of Washington, D.C.

 

Evergreen offers intensive, eight week sessions throughout the year, with flexible class times and several levels of instruction to ensure each student is in the most effective learning atmosphere. Skills workshops focus on pronunciation, vocabulary, and business English, while the TOEFL and IELTS classes prepare students for national English exams, and the TESOL course trains those wishing to become a certified English teacher. The school is accredited by the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CEA) and all Evergreen teachers are native English speakers. Evergreen’s student support system is extensive and the school strives to create a hassle-free experience by advising on the visa process, arranging students’ health insurance, and organizing home-stays and accommodation.

 

Florida Atlantic University

Students at Florida Atlantic University (FAU) have the world at their fingertips. The biomedical students have access to two private research institutions, the ocean engineering students are building their own human powered submarines, and all students are enjoying the brand new football stadium, recreation center, and housing facilities. A solid range of programs from business to mechanical engineering draws over 600 foreign students to FAU each year, and the school has already hosted over sixty Brazilian BSMP students. The university is very accessible to international students, who can take intensive English language classes and participate in the new Pathways to Academic Readiness (PAR) program. Foreign students are welcomed to apply for funding if they choose to pursue their entire degree at FAU. FAU has nearly fifty international agreements with partner universities, leading even more students to choose to study at this opportunity-filled institution located less than an hour from Miami.

 

Georgia State University

Georgia State University, in dynamic Atlanta, offers students an attractive opportunity to live and study in the city that is home to Coca-Cola, the Home Depot, and Delta Airlines. In addition to local internship and job opportunities, Atlanta offers a robust public transportation system and a vibrant higher education community. Georgia State, one of America’s most diverse institutions, enrolls students from all socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.

 

Georgia State offers 250 degree programs, and Brazilian students are particularly attracted to majors such as computer science, chemistry, and nursing. The university recently hosted twenty-seven Brazil Scientific Mobility Program students, and looks forward to hosting more in the fall. Georgia State has several agreements with universities throughout Brazil, as well as faculty on the Fulbright exchange program. The university’s commitment to Brazil is evidenced by an intensive English language program, Portuguese classes for local students, Brazilian cultural events on campus, and networking with the Brazilian community of Atlanta and the Brazilian-American Chamber of Commerce.

 

Guilford College

A small liberal arts college of Quaker origin, Guilford College is known for providing students with unmatched personal attention and opportunities for faculty and community engagement. Beyond the college’s friendly home town of Greensboro, North Carolina, Guilford students are encouraged to study abroad in Latin America and the BRIC countries, including Brazil. Students can choose from sixteen study abroad options in Brazil, and Guilford offers non-traditional programs that focus on service learning and internships.

 

Guilford College is a part of the dynamic group of institutions known as Colleges that Change Lives, and seeks to empower students to pursue their passions and academic goals. The college is known for strong science programs, as well as and environmental studies program linked to the school’s local farm – one of many green initiatives at this sustainability-focused institution. Guilford College hopes to attract more students through the Brazil Scientific Mobility Program, and believes these students will benefit from the school’s strong support services which include orientation and international student advisors.

 

Gulf Language School

Located in Houston, Texas, The Gulf Language School (GLS) serves as the renowned Intensive English Program of North American University. Accredited by The Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CEA), GLS draws students from more than forty countries around the world to its intensive eight-week English courses and state-of-the-art classroom and residence facilities. The North American University Library is available to GLS students, as are several computer labs, and all courses have technology-integrated components. In addition, GLS provides international students with career services, academic and personal counseling, testing services, and health services.

 

Classes are small, facilitating student collaboration and support, as well as individualized student-teacher attention. Howard University

Since 1867, Howard University (HU) has educated some of the world’s top students, who are drawn to HU’s amazing historical and cultural learning experience. Located in the heart of the nation’s capital, Washington, D.C., the institution has played an important role in American history, especially during the Civil Rights Movement, which brought students of all backgrounds together on the HU campus. HU’s leadership is highly influential in the D.C. community, and includes the first Nobel Peace Prize winner of African descent, Ralph J. Bunche, after whom the International Affairs department is named. Howard University is one of only forty-eight private, American, Doctoral/Research-Extensive universities, and is comprised of twelve schools offering more than 120 areas of study leading to undergraduate, graduate, and professional degrees. HU programs include business, engineering, pharmacology, law, social work, architecture and planning, and medicine and dentistry. In addition, the Howard University Hospital educates global leaders in the fields of healthcare and health equality, and is a lead institution in the training of female surgeons and African-American physicians.
